Gracie Barra Boston can be found in North Brookline. Gracie Barra is the number one ranked affiliation in the world in terms of competition success by the International BJJ Federation. With thousands of schools worldwide, GB has one of the best systematized jiu jitsu curriculums for students.
The Gracie Barra in Boston has a strong kids program and an adult’s program subdivided into beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. What is unique to this GB is a weekly open mat class dedicated just to women.

In Newton you’ll find Boston Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Boston BJJ is one of the most established gyms in the area, having been founded in 1995 by now 5th degree blackbelt Roberto Maia.
Boston BJJ exclusively focuses on jiu jitsu and does not offer other martial arts. They offer up to 20 adult jiu jitsu classes per week in both gi and nogi. They also have a kids and teen BJJ program. Potential members can get their first class free!
Empower BJJ
In Dorchester, you’ll find Empower Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Empower focuses exclusively on jiu jitsu and does not offer other martial arts. They have classes for kids, teens and adults. There are about 12 adult classes per week and 10 kids classes per week.
Brazilian Top Team Boston
Brazilian Top Team is a highly respected BJJ affiliation who brings their excellence to the Boston area. Located in Everett, Brazilian TT offers multiple martial arts programs in addition to their main focus of BJJ. The gym’s main instructor is Daniel “Mirel ” Gazoni, a 3rd degree blackbelt.
Adults get up to 8 jiu jitsu classes per week with the gi and without the gi. The school also offers classes in muay thai and judo for adults for those who want to turn into well rounded martial artists. Brazilian Top Team also has several kids classes per week in jiu jitsu and tae kwon do.

Kimura Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
In Watertown you can find Kimura BJJ, named after one of the most common moves in jiu jitsu. Kimura Jiu Jitsu is owned and operated by Jean Kleber de Freitas, a 4th degree blackbelt. Overall there are 3 coaches in the Boston location, one a blackbelt and one a purple belt.
Kimura does not offer other martial arts. There are over 20 jiu jitsu classes available for adults. There are also numerous kids jiu jitsu classes throughout the week. Potential members can get their first class free!
Combat Sports Boston
Combat Sports Boston is a mixed martial arts gym located directly in the city of Boston in the Westend. The gym is owned and operated by Phil Myers who has 20 years experience in MMA. He is a blackbelt under Boston Jiu Jitsu’s head instructor Roberto Maia.
CSB offers jiu jitsu and muay thai making it ideal for those who want to develop both their striking and ground game. CSB also has women-only classes making it a friendly environment for women to train. CSB does not offer kids classes.
Mass BJJ
MassBJJ has three locations around the Boston area, Acton, Arlington and Brighton. At all three schools there are blackbelt instructors (in the case of Acton and Arlington there are several). Each location offers jiu jitsu both in the gi and nogi.
The Arlington and Acton locations offers kickboxing, MMA and strength training in addition to BJJ. They also both have women-only classes making those gyms female friendly. The Brighton location only has jiu jitsu. Every location has kids classes for BJJ.
